Graphical software for the Microsoft Windows system is used for setting the operational parameters before deployment and retrieving the data after deployment.

The STL-xxxKN recorder operates up to 18 months on internal batteries.

Currently available tension range:  (0 to 100000N). The STL-010KN and the STL-100KN were developed by iokeys in co-operation with the Landsnet and the National Power Company (Landsvirkjun) for studies of ice load and wind load measurements and has been used under the most severe weather conditions for several years.

These instruments are also used by Norwegian electrical power companies.

An optional on-line gsm/gprs for the STL-100KN is being tested in Iceland. The radio transmitter enables real time monitoring of load tension conditions.

STL-100KN Product Description

The STL-100KN is a robust and waterproof, battery operated tension recorder which is suitable for measurements of tension loads up to 10 tons.

The STL-100KN consists of two units, a s-beam load cell tension unit and an electronic data recorder which is fixed to the tension unit with fasteners for easy removal.

The load cell is sensitive to tension and generates an electrical signal which is measured and recorded within the data recorder unit.

The STL-100KN is capable of measuring tension every second for more than one year at a time, ensuring valuable information for long term research applications. Maximum, minimum and mean values of each measuring interval are stored in memory at the end of each measuring interval. A typical measuring interval is 10 minutes, but it is user selectable form 5 seconds to several hours, when the instrument is set from a PC computer.

STL-100KN records the tension at a user-selected sampling interval and stores the data in memory under the control of a microprocessor. After recovery, the data is retrieved by a PC computer using the supporting software, which also processes the data and presents it graphically and in tabular form. Flexible export functions allow the user to export the data in a format which suits his favourite data processing software.

The low cost and small size of the STL-100KN, combined with its long battery life, open up a whole world of new applications which have hitherto been impractical to realise using more expensive and bulkier devices.

The STL-100KN is designed to survive severe weather conditions year round. The STL-100KN has been installed successfully at several locations for measuring the mechanical load (weight) of live (220KV) high power transmission lines in Iceland. Please contact  iokeys for references.

A test model, STL-400KN, with a 40 ton load tension range has been successfully operated for measuring loads on an avalanche defence structure by the Icelandic Meteorological Office. Please contact  iokeys for references.

The STL-100KN is ideally suited for research applications where mechanical tension on structures, due to environmental factors, is of concern.

Measuring resolution is 10N and the accuracy is +/- 10N.

Data memory capacity is 690.000 values.

Battery life is one year in normal operation.

A user friendly Windows software is used for setting operating parameters and for data retrieval. The software enables tabular and graphical representation of the measured data as well as exporting to other software packages (i.e. Microsoft Excel and similar software).
The STL-100KN is very easy to operate and has an all aluminium (ISO -9001 standard made) enclosure.
